
NHS Clinical AI Platform | Product UX Lead
Designing AI support for intensive care handover and clinical judgement.
This confidential NHS-facing project explored how AI could support ICU teams working with complex patient data. The work focused on how doctors and nurses interpret organ-level clinical information, distinguish AI-generated insight from clinician judgement, and preserve context across shift handovers.
Challenges
The platform needed to support high-pressure clinical decisions in an ICU environment, where users were working from shared hospital workstations, interrupted workflows and time-sensitive handovers. The UX challenge was to make organ-level patient data easier to interpret while keeping AI output clearly distinguishable from clinician-authored amendments.
Design Responsibility
I worked through the clinical data model, ICU workflow and handover experience in detail, defining how organ-level information should be structured, compared and communicated across the interface. My responsibility included shaping the AI-human decision boundary, making authorship and amendments visible, supporting clinician note-taking for handover continuity, and exploring how a simplified family-facing view could help relatives understand a patient condition without clinical overload.
